What is stewardship? Christian stewardship is the act of maintaining the careful management of God’s gifts and using them effectively to do His work. These gifts consist of three resources which are commonly referred to as time, talent, and treasure. St. George on Yonge relies on its congregation to share their gifts to assist with the ministries at church and in the wider community with intended giving.
Read on to learn more about intended giving, supporting our ministries, pledging and giving, and how to become involved.
Hebrews 13:16
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,
for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

About intended giving
We give because God first gave to us. Our gifts of time, talent, and treasure are acts of love and gratitude that sustain worship and music, hospitality, discipleship, outreach and pastoral care, and facilities and operations at St. George on Yonge.
A church pledge is a statement of commitment to financially support our church’s mission and ministries through regular, intended giving. It is a promise or intention not a legal contract. Pledges help our church plan responsibly for the coming year and are also a spiritual discipline that strengthens our relationship with God.
Our individual lifestyles, responsibilities, and resources vary from person to person, but the principles of intended giving are the same:
- Pray: Gratitude and discernment are at the heart of stewardship
- Determine a percentage or a weekly, monthly, or annual amount that you can afford and sustain. This table illustrates proportional giving:

- Review your pledge annually as an act of faith and spiritual growth
- Consider gradually increasing your gift as you are able (e.g., +0.5–1% per year)
