St. George on Yonge is bustling with activity throughout the week.
Children and Youth
A warm welcome awaits our young members at St. George on Yonge Church School . Come and spend time with us on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
The children begin their time together by gathering for music and the story. We used the Sermon4kids.com program.
Children ages 3 to 12 gather for a program of music, Bible stories, creative time and prayer. They join the rest of the congregation for communion. The classes are lead by Kathy Baillie (with over 40 years experience teaching church school) and Clavel Lyttle, assisted by Debbie.
Wednesday Morning Group
We meet in a spirit of friendship, with a desire to add to our knowledge and spirituality and to enjoy fellowship with others in the community. We do not call ourselves seniors, though we are, but we are all young at heart. It is an opportunity to socialize, get to know each other better and support each other. We often watch a video, which we use as a basis to discuss and share our points of view. Occasionally we invite speakers to talk about issues important to our generation. Please join us. We are always welcoming new members.
We meet on Wednesday mornings, naturally, at 10:30 a.m. in the church lounge. Finishing time is flexible, though it’s usually between noon and 12:30 p.m. For more information, please contact the church office.
The Prayer Group
The Prayer Group are members of St. George on Yonge who are committed to praying for others. The group meets twice each month to update the prayer list, learn different methods of prayer and pray together. Between meetings, new prayer requests and updates are passed on to the group members by telephone. Prayer requests are kept strictly confidential.
Pastoral Visitors
Pastoral visitors are trained volunteers who provide support to the sick, the dying and the homebound, either by visiting or keeping in touch by telephone. Some of our pastoral visitors are trained and licensed to take communion to the homebound.
Telephone Tree
A group of parishioners who keep contact with those we might not see very often in church. In particular, they phone about upcoming events in our parish life to be sure that everyone is included.
Fellowship
A number of times throughout the year, events are planned for socializing together and sharing fellowship. These have included the yearly pancake supper, a spring BBQ and a carol singing evening before Christmas. As well, the Sunday School teachers have planned a pre-Advent event for children and adults in either late November or early December.
Newcomers
A working group coordinates our hospitality and welcome to those who are new to the parish or visiting. There is a bag of material that is shared to introduce people to the parish. Parish ambassadors are available to interact with and welcome any new people on a Sunday morning, as well as answer any questions they may have. We also plan gatherings a few times throughout the year to gather together those who are new and formally welcome them to St. George on Yonge.
Stewardship
We rely on the offering of individuals to support the ministry at St. George on Yonge and the wider church. In 2015, we participated in the “Faithful Stewards” program offered by the Diocese. Over the year we will raise awareness of our various financial needs, as well as the need for our members to share their time and talent. A working group facilitates this important ministry in our parish life.
